How to Strikethrough in Excel
Add a strikethrough to one or many cells in Excel. The keyboard shortcut, the format menu, and a way to do it across an entire column.
Method
Fastest: select cell(s) → Ctrl + 5 (Mac: ⌘ + Shift + X) Menu: Home → Font group → Strikethrough icon (an S with a line through it)
Apply to an entire column
Select entire column → Ctrl + Shift + 5 toggles on/off.
Conditional format auto-strike
Conditional Formatting → New Rule → ‘Format only cells that contain’ → Cell value equals ‘done’ → Font → Effects → Strikethrough.
Batch with our tool
Strikethrough Text operates on plain text (won’t preserve spreadsheet structure). Good for CSV/plain-text line-level strikethrough.
Note
Excel strikethrough is character formatting and doesn’t affect cell content. It prints normally unless you explicitly turn off ‘Print Strikethrough’ in print options.
